David Buckingham

Scream gallery, February 2014

Using sheet metal scavenged from abandoned cars and trucks and other machinery in the Californian desert, David Buckingham travels in search of beautiful, battered metal that has had a previous life and the scars to prove it. Once the pieces make their way back to his studio in downtown Los Angeles, Buckingham ‘mines [his] own psyche’ to create works steeped in his memory, experiences, and things that have stuck in his  creative mind: song lyrics, an overhead or remembered remarks, a joke from an episode of an old TV show find their way into his work, each piece a bit of a self-excavation.
